1 Cent Silver Proof Issue

Singapore's proof sets of this period were produced specifically for the collector market, with the Monetary Authority commissioning sterling silver versions of circulating denominations that in everyday use were struck in copper-clad steel. The 1-cent in circulation was already a coin people ignored — by the mid-1980s, Singaporeans were routinely refusing them as change. The government formally demonetized the 1-cent piece in 2002, making these proof issues the only survivors of the denomination in any form worth preserving.
