| Beschrijving keerzijde | A tall palm tree rising from a coastal landscape, with low rocky shoreline and distant scenery visible in the middle ground, all contained within a raised inner circle. Two five-pointed stars flank the central device at the left and right sides of the inner border. The denomination ONE CENT arcs along the upper legend, and the date 1847 is inscribed in the lower exergual area outside the inner circle. |

Liberia's 1847 coinage was the first struck for the newly declared republic, produced in Philadelphia under private contract rather than at the U.S. Mint proper. Pattern pieces in lead were made to test dies before committing to the copper circulation strikes — standard practice for the period, though survivorship among lead trials is predictably low given the metal's susceptibility to oxidation and physical damage over nearly two centuries.
