| Obverse description | Seated allegorical figure of the French Republic facing left, wearing a radiate crown and classical drapery, holding an upright fasces or spear in her raised right hand and resting her left hand upon an anchor, with a sheaf of grain to her left in the field. The design is contained within a beaded inner circle. The legend RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE curves along the upper periphery, the date appears in large numerals at the bottom, and the mint mark A together with the engraver's initials A.B. appear in the lower exergue of the inner circle. The whole is bordered by a beaded outer rim. |
