Obverse description Round cast iron cash coin centering on a square central perforation, surrounded by a plain raised inner rim. The four-character reign title legend 元符通寶 (Yuanfu Tongbao) is disposed in clerical script (lishu) reading top-to-bottom, right-to-left around the square hole, with one character positioned at each cardinal point. The characters are rendered in the distinctive structured, flat-topped strokes characteristic of clerical script calligraphy, as employed during the Yuanfu reign period (1098–1100) of Emperor Zhezong of the Northern Song Dynasty. A plain outer rim borders the coin's circumference. The surfaces display typical casting texture consistent with Northern Song iron cash production.
