Obverse description Cast iron cash coin featuring four Chinese characters in kaishu (regular script) arranged in cruciform reading order around a central square perforation: top to bottom and right to left. The reign title inscription 咸豐通寶 (Xianfeng Tongbao) occupies the four quadrants of the obverse field, with 咸 at top, 寶 at bottom, 通 at right, and 豐 at left relative to the hole. The characters are raised in relief against a flat, unadorned field, bordered by an inner and outer rim typical of Qing dynasty cast coinage. The coin exhibits heavy surface corrosion consistent with its iron composition and age.

Reverse description The reverse displays two Manchu script characters flanking the central square perforation, reading vertically from top to bottom. The Manchu word ᠪᠣᠣ (Boo) appears to the right of the hole and ᡷᡳ (Jyi) to the left, together identifying the Zhili (Baoding) mint. The characters are cast in shallow relief and show significant iron oxidation and surface encrustation. The field is otherwise plain, bounded by a raised inner square rim around the perforation and a plain outer rim.
