| Obverse description | Central square perforation surrounded by four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), arranged in the traditional reading order: top (咸), right (通), bottom (豐), left (寶), together forming the reign title inscription 咸豐通寶 (Xianfeng Tongbao). The characters are rendered in bold, well-defined strokes within a plain inner square rim and an outer raised rim. The flat field shows typical cast surface texture consistent with Qing dynasty cash coin production. |

| Reverse description | Central square perforation flanked by two Manchu script characters, one to the left and one to the right of the hole, reading vertically to form the mint name 'Boo Chiowan' (ᠪᠣᠣ ᠴᡳᠣᠸᠠᠨ), identifying the Board of Revenue Mint in Beijing. The Manchu glyphs are cast in raised relief against a flat, granular field, bounded by a plain inner square rim and an outer raised rim. The reverse is otherwise unadorned. |
