Tianxi was the final reign title of Emperor Zhenzong, adopted in 1017 as part of a broader effort to reframe his legacy after the humiliating 1005 Treaty of Shanyuan, which had forced the Song court to pay annual tribute to the Liao dynasty in silk and silver. The cash coinage issued under this title circulated during a period of relative fiscal stress, as those tribute obligations — 200,000 bolts of silk and 100,000 taels of silver annually — placed continuous pressure on Song treasury output.
