Two large Chinese characters in traditional calligraphy are arranged vertically above and below the central square hole: 聖 (Shèng, 'Sacred') above and 寶 (Bǎo, 'currency/treasure') below, reading top to bottom. The characters are rendered in raised relief against a flat recessed field. The broad plain rim frames the design, and the overall casting finish is consistent with Taiping Heavenly Kingdom workshop production of the period. |
