Obverse description Cast brass cash coin bearing four Chinese ideograms in regular script (kaishu), arranged in the traditional cruciform reading order: top to bottom, right to left around a central square perforation. The legend 順治通寶 (Shunzhi Tongbao) reads top, bottom, right, left respectively, designating the reign title of the Shunzhi Emperor and proclaiming it universal currency. The characters are boldly rendered in raised relief against a flat field, framed by a plain raised rim and the squared inner rim surrounding the central hole. The casting is typical of early Qing Board of Works production, with strong, well-defined strokes characteristic of the official kai shu calligraphic style.
