Obverse description Four Chinese ideograms in kaishu (regular script) are arranged in the traditional cash coin layout around the central square hole, reading top to bottom and right to left: 光 (Quang) at top, 通 (Thông) at right, 中 (Trung) at bottom, and 寶 (Bảo) at left. The characters are boldly cast in relief within the inner field, which is bounded by a raised inner rim surrounding the square perforation. A raised outer rim borders the coin's circumference, and the broad flat field between the inner and outer rims is plain.
