The Longwu reign lasted barely fourteen months. Zhu Yujian declared himself the Longwu Emperor in Fuzhou in late 1645 after the fall of the Hongguang court, one of several competing Ming loyalist regimes scrambling for legitimacy as Qing forces swept south. He was captured and killed by Qing troops in late 1646, making this cash issue the entire monetary output of an emperor who never controlled more than Fujian province.
