| Descrizione del dritto | The obverse presents the four-character reign legend in traditional Chinese regular script (kaishu), arranged in the classical Vietnamese cash coin format: read top to bottom and right to left around the central square perforation. The character 啓 (Khải) appears at the top, 通 (Thông) to the right, 定 (Định) at the bottom, and 寳 (Bảo) to the left, collectively reading 啓定通寳 (Khải Định Thông Bảo), meaning 'Universal currency of the Khải Định reign.' The characters are boldly rendered in raised relief against a flat, unadorned field, in the traditional aesthetic of Nguyễn dynasty cash coinage. Varieties exist in the form of the character 通 (Thông), which may appear with either a closed or open head, and in the stroke count of 啓 (Khải), recorded as either 10 or 11 strokes. |
