| Obverse description | Round cast brass cash coin with a central square hole framed by a raised inner rim. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged in cruciform order around the central aperture, reading top-to-bottom then right-to-left: 康 (Kāng, top), 熙 (Xī, right), 通 (Tōng, bottom), 寶 (Bǎo, left), forming the reign title and denomination legend 'Kangxi Tongbao' — 'Precious Currency of the Kangxi Emperor'. The characters are boldly cast in relief against a flat, unadorned field, with a plain raised outer rim encircling the entire design. |
