Obverse description Cast bronze cash coin featuring the four-character legend 開元通寶 (Kaiyuan Tongbao) arranged in clerical script (lishu) reading top-to-bottom, right-to-left around a central square perforation. The characters are bold and well-defined in relief, set within a plain inner rim bordering the square hole and a raised outer rim encircling the flat field. The clerical script rendition, distinctive to the Southern Tang emission, exhibits the characteristic broad, flattened strokes and structured horizontal emphasis of that calligraphic style. The coin shows an overall patina of green and brown encrustation consistent with bronze burial corrosion.
