Obverse description Cast brass cash coin of round form with a central square perforation, bearing the four-character reign legend 黃帝通寶 (Huangdi Tongbao) arranged in the traditional cross-reading order around the square hole: 黃 above, 通 to the right, 寶 below, and 帝 to the left, all rendered in regular script (kaishu). The characters are boldly cast in raised relief against a flat field, with a plain inner rim encircling the square aperture and a raised outer rim defining the coin's circumference. The overall style is consistent with locally produced rebel-issue cast coinage of the mid-nineteenth century, exhibiting characteristic irregularities in casting quality.

Reverse description Plain reverse field bearing two characters flanking the central square perforation, reading 寶浙 (Boo Zhe), identifying the Zhejiang provincial mint. The Manchu character ᠪᠣᠣ (Boo) appears to the left of the hole and the Chinese character 浙 (Zhe) appears to the right, both cast in raised relief in regular script. A raised inner rim borders the square aperture and a plain raised outer rim encircles the coin. The casting surface displays the textured patina and minor irregularities typical of rebel-issue emergency coinage produced in the Zhejiang region during the 1858–1864 period.
