| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse presents four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), arranged in the traditional reading order: top, bottom, right, left around a central square perforation. The characters 光緒通寶 (Guāngxù Tóngbǎo) identify the reign and denomination, reading 'Circulating currency of the Guangxu Emperor.' The boldly cast legends are raised in high relief against a flat, unadorned field. A plain, slightly raised rim encircles the design. The central square hole, characteristic of Chinese cash coinage, is cleanly cut and precisely formed. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse displays two Manchu script words divided by the central square hole, reading vertically: 'Boo-chiowan' (ᠪᠣᠣ ᠴᡳᠣᠸᠠᠨ), identifying the Beijing Board of Revenue Mint. The Manchu characters are cast in raised relief, flanking the square perforation on the left and right. The field is otherwise plain and undecorated, with a simple raised rim. The inscription follows the standard convention for Qing dynasty cash coins of designating the issuing mint on the reverse in Manchu script. |
