| 裏面の説明 | Central square perforation flanked by two Chinese characters in traditional regular script (kaishu), positioned to the left and right of the hole and read right to left: 源 (yuán, right) and 記 (jì, left), together forming the legend 源記 (Yuanji), likely denoting a merchant house or issuing firm's mark. The characters are cast in low relief with a plain field and raised outer rim, exhibiting the characteristically crude workmanship associated with locally produced tin cash coinage of the Bangka region. |

Bangka Island's tin cash were issued not by any government mint but by the pepper and tin trading companies operating under VOC influence — essentially private commodity money, struck in the same metal being extracted from the island's mines. The square hole follows Chinese cash conventions deliberately, targeting the island's substantial migrant labor population who would have recognized the form instantly.
The century-wide date range reflects genuine uncertainty; no production records survive.
