Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged in the four cardinal positions around the central perforation, reading clockwise from top: 大 (top), 通 (right), 寶 (bottom), 寶 (left), forming the legend 大寶通寶 (Đại Bảo Thông Bảo). The characters are bold and well-defined in relief against the flat field. The outer rim is raised and clearly delineated, typical of Vietnamese cash coinage of the Lê dynasty period. |
