Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged in cruciform fashion around the central hole, reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left: 景興巨寶 (Cảnh Hưng Cự Bảo), meaning 'Giant Currency of the Cảnh Hưng era.' The characters are rendered in bold, slightly irregular relief consistent with Vietnamese sand-casting technique. The field between the characters and the outer rim is flat and unadorned, displaying typical patination of aged copper alloy. |
