| Obverse description | Cast brass cash coin with a central square perforation, bearing four Chinese characters arranged in the traditional reading order — top, bottom, right, left — around the hole. The inscription reads 寶大通寶 (Bảo Đại Thông Bảo), identifying the reign era of Emperor Bảo Đại and denoting universal currency. The characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) in raised relief against a flat field. A plain raised rim borders the coin on both the inner edge of the square hole and the outer circumference. The overall style and casting technique follow the long-established Vietnamese cash coin tradition. |
