| Beschrijving voorzijde | Cast bronze cash coin of standard Tang Dynasty round-with-square-hole (方孔錢) form. The four Chinese characters of the legend 開元通寶 (Kai Yuan Tong Bao) are arranged in clerical script reading top-to-bottom, right-to-left around the central square perforation, separated by the raised inner rim of the square hole and the outer raised rim of the coin. The characters are bold and well-defined in relief against a flat field. The obverse surface displays a heavy patina of green malachite and brown corrosion consistent with prolonged burial. |
