A partially legible Latin legend surrounds the design, reading ... BECK EPS LEO, an abbreviated form of GROESBEECK EPISCOPUS LEODIENSIS, identifying the issuer as Gerard of Groesbeeck, Prince-Bishop of Liège. The field is flat and unadorned, consistent with the utilitarian character of this hammered copper issue. |
