| Reverse description | The reverse displays the eagle of the Prince-bishopric of Liège rendered in a bold but schematic hammered style, with spread wings and detailed feather striations visible despite significant wear. The eagle, a heraldic symbol of the sovereignty of the see of Liège, occupies the central field and is enclosed within a beaded or toothed inner circle. A partial Latin legend surrounding the design reads .... COMES ...., an abbreviated reference to the bishop's secular titles as Duke of Bouillon and Count of Looz. The overall strike is irregular, as is characteristic of hammered copper petty coinage of this period and region. |
