| Opis awersu |
Uniface trial piece displaying the reverse legend in mirror-reversed (incuse) impression. The central field bears the denomination inscription '1 THALARI' in two lines, struck in reverse as a consequence of the die transfer process. The plain, unadorned field surrounding the legend shows characteristic die-trial surface marks. No border or additional design elements are present, consistent with a single-sided pattern strike intended to test the reverse die. |

| Opis rewersu |
The Lion of Judah stands in profile facing right, wearing an imperial crown and carrying a processional cross-staff over its right shoulder, with a flowing banner draped across its back. A circular Ge'ez legend surrounds the lion in the upper field, reading the imperial titulature of Menelik II. Below the lion, along the base line, the denomination አንድ፡ብር (One Birr) is inscribed in Ge'ez script. The engraver's signature 'LAGRANGE' appears in small letters beneath the lion's forepaws, and the Paris mint mark 'A' is positioned at the bottom center. The entire design is enclosed within a toothed border. |
