| Reverse description | The Lion of Judah stands in profile facing right, wearing an imperial crown and carrying a processional cross-staff over its right shoulder, with a flowing banner draped across its back. A circular Ge'ez legend surrounds the lion in the upper field, reading the imperial titulature of Menelik II. Below the lion, along the base line, the denomination አንድ፡ብር (One Birr) is inscribed in Ge'ez script. The engraver's signature 'LAGRANGE' appears in small letters beneath the lion's forepaws, and the Paris mint mark 'A' is positioned at the bottom center. The entire design is enclosed within a toothed border. |
