| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central effigy of Emperor Menelik II facing right, rendered as a crowned and robed bust in high relief, the portrait engraved by Jules-Clément Chaplain in a classical medallic style. The Emperor is depicted wearing the imperial crown and a draped garment, his features rendered with fine detail befitting a state portrait of the period. A circular Ge'ez legend surrounds the effigy, reading 'His Imperial Majesty Menelik, King of Kings of Ethiopia,' with the Ethiopian calendar date (1895 EC, corresponding to 1902-1903 AD) incorporated into the legend. The field is smooth, and the entire design is contained within a raised rim. |
