Šibenik was unusual among Dalmatian communes in obtaining the right to strike its own coinage relatively late — the city's minting privilege was granted by Venice, whose commercial grip on the eastern Adriatic meant most smaller towns never issued at all. The bagattino was the smallest unit in the Venetian-influenced currency system, a coin intended purely for local petty transactions rather than regional trade.
Dobrinić's reference number places this squarely among the rarest of the Šibenik civic issues, with the surviving population negligible given the denomination's copper composition and heavy circulation use.
