Additional information

The Mihrabanids were a minor Sistani dynasty clinging to power in Nimruz through a combination of nominal submission to larger powers and shrewd local administration. 'Izz al-Din's long reign — nearly three decades — coincided with the turbulent aftermath of the Black Death and sustained pressure from the Kartid rulers to the north. That a gold tanka was struck at all during this period speaks to the dynasty's residual control over trade routes crossing the Helmand basin.

Album 2358 is sparsely documented in the auction record, making die-matched survivors useful for establishing the chronology of this reign.
