| Thông tin bổ sung |
Praeneste — modern Palestrina, roughly 35 kilometers southeast of Rome — maintained its own bronze coinage well into the period when Roman monetary influence was tightening across Latium. This heavy cast as belongs to the aes grave tradition, produced before Rome's consolidation of regional minting effectively ended independent Latin issues. The dagger as symbol functions as a mint or series mark distinguishing this emission from others in the Praenestine sequence, a convention shared across several central Italian cast bronze series of the period.
At over 266 grams, this piece reflects a pre-reduction weight standard that predates the systematic lightening forced by the financial strains of the First Punic War.
