Praeneste — modern Palestrina, roughly 35 kilometers southeast of Rome — maintained its own bronze coinage well into the period when Roman monetary influence was tightening across Latium. This heavy cast as belongs to the aes grave tradition, produced before Rome's consolidation of regional minting effectively ended independent Latin issues.
