| Opis rewersu | The reverse displays the national emblem of Pakistan: a left-opening crescent with a large five-pointed star in its concave field, centrally placed within a beaded inner circle. Two smaller five-pointed stars appear at either side in the field, and the denomination legend in Arabic script arcs along the upper periphery. A spray of olive or wheat branches flanks the lower field, meeting at a small ornament at the base, with the English denomination 'ONE ANNA' inscribed in two lines below the crescent device. |

Pakistan's first coinage series was struck at the Royal Mint in London and the Bombay Mint, as the new nation lacked its own minting facility in the years immediately following Partition in 1947. The anna denominations presented a particular design puzzle: the crescent's orientation became a point of contention, resulting in two distinct varieties — opening left and opening right — both of which circulated concurrently.
The left-opening crescent on this type is the scarcer of the two in most grades.
