| Obverse description | Central vignette portrays Diogo Cão (c. 1452–c. 1486), the Portuguese explorer renowned for his voyages along the west coast of Africa during the Age of Discovery, including the exploration of the Congo River and the coasts of present-day Angola and Namibia. The portrait is set within an intaglio-engraved surround typical of De La Rue production, with guilloche underprint patterns and denomination inscriptions flanking the central image. Issuing authority and territorial designations appear in letterpress along the upper and lower margins. |
