| Obverse description | Central field bears the Shi'ite Kalima (profession of faith) inscribed in three horizontal lines in bold Nastaliq calligraphy, reading: 'There is no god but God / Muhammad is the Messenger of God / Ali is the Friend of God.' The legends fill the flan with characteristic Safavid calligraphic authority, framed by a dotted border running along the coin's periphery. The die-struck lettering is deeply incuse against a slightly uneven hammered field, typical of Safavid silver coinage of this period. |
