Additional information

The Mutawakkilite Kingdom issued these small bronzes under Imam Yahya ibn Muhammad, who spent the early years of his reign fighting off Ottoman reassertion of control over the Yemeni highlands. The 1911 start date coincides almost precisely with the Italian-Turkish War, which stretched Ottoman attention thin and allowed Yahya to consolidate authority — a political fact embedded in the very existence of an independent Yemeni coinage at this moment.

The 1⁄80 riyal fraction reflects a traditional Yemeni monetary subdivision system with roots well before this issue, not a decimal reform.
