As is characteristic of this fractional denomination, much of the legend falls beyond the flan edge, leaving only partial text visible on the struck surface. The field is plain with no central motif. The inscription follows the standard Mughal-style mint and regnal-year formula. |

Shah Alam II was, by 1765, effectively a prisoner of his own nominal authority — the Diwani grant of that year handed the East India Company legal revenue administration over Bengal, Bihar, and Orissa, reducing the Mughal emperor to a figurehead whose name continued to appear on Company-struck coinage purely for commercial and political legitimacy in local markets. These fractional silver pieces circulated in a Bengal economy still deeply suspicious of anything that didn't carry Mughal regnal styling.
