Obverse description Circular Persian legend occupying the entire field, reading: 'Sikka zad bar haft kishwar saya fazl Ilah Hami ud-din Muhammad Shah Alam Badshah' followed by the AH regnal year. The inscription, rendered in Arabic script, proclaims Shah Alam II as Emperor and Defender of the Faith. Due to the small flan size relative to the die, the legend is largely off the flan, with only partial characters visible on the struck surface. The field is flat and unadorned, with no central device.
Obverse script Arabic
Obverse lettering شاه عالم بادشاه حامي دين محمد ساى فضل لله سكة زد بر حفت كشور
(Translation: Defender of the religion of Muhammad, Shah Alam Emperor Shadow of the divine favour, put his stamp on the seven climes, (ah date))
