| Obverse description | Central field displays the impaled coats of arms of Jülich and Gelre side by side, rendered in low relief characteristic of hammered medieval coinage. The armorial design is enclosed within a pearled inner circle. A circular legend in uncial Latin characters runs along the outer periphery of the flan, partially visible due to the irregular striking of the planchet. The overall design reflects the heraldic conventions of fifteenth-century Low Countries ducal coinage. |

Each quarter contains an initial letter representing one of the four principal minting cities of the Duchy of Gelre: A for Arnhem, N for Nijmegen, R for Roermond, and S for Zutphen (Sutphen). A circular legend in uncial Latin script occupies the outer border, partially legible on account of the irregular hammered flan. The design follows the standard type of Burgundian-influenced Low Countries small coinage of the mid-fifteenth century. |
