Obverse description Central cross composed of four crowned sceptres (batons fleurdelisés), each arm terminating in a crown, forming a cruciform design characteristic of the Valois-Bourbon coinage tradition. The four quadrants between the arms of the cross are filled with fleur-de-lis motifs in relief. A circular Latin legend surrounds the entire design, reading the king's royal titles, separated by ornamental punctuation marks. The hammered flan gives the coin its characteristic irregular outline, and the relief of the central cross is bold and well-struck.

Reverse description Crowned shield of France bearing three fleurs-de-lis (France modern), flanked on either side by the denomination numerals V and III indicating the value of one-eighth écu. The mint mark letter appears at the base point of the shield. The entire composition is enclosed within a circular Latin legend invoking the divine blessing, separated by ornamental stops. The crowned shield is rendered with fine detail typical of hammered silver coinage of the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries under Henry IV.
