| Obverse description | Central field bearing the crowned royal arms of France — a shield semy of fleurs-de-lis — surmounted by an open crown of France. The denomination numeral 'V III' (eight, split as V and III) appears flanking the shield in the field to left and right respectively, indicating the one-eighth value. A circular Latin legend surrounds the entire design within a beaded inner border, reading HENRICVS IIII D G FRANC ET NAVA REX, identifying Henry IV by the Grace of God as King of France and Navarre. The mint mark appears at the base of the legend. |

| Reverse description | A bold floriated cross occupies the central field, its arms terminating in elaborate fleur-de-lis finials and adorned with interlaced foliate ornament at the crossing, characteristic of the French royal coinage of the period. A fleur-de-lis appears in the upper left canton of the cross. The surrounding circular Latin legend, interrupted by a cross pattée at the top, reads SIT NOMEN DOMINI BENEDICTVM ('Blessed be the name of the Lord'), with the date 1603 incorporated into the legend. A beaded inner border frames the design. |
