| Obverse description | Crudely struck hammered copper flan exhibiting a highly stylized and deeply corroded device occupying the central field. The design, characteristic of Portuguese India small-denomination coinage struck at the Ceilão mint under Filipe II, features primitive angular motifs rendered in low relief, typical of the rudimentary die-cutting technique employed at colonial mints of this period. The irregular flan and heavily encrusted surface, now displaying a dark patina consistent with prolonged burial, render individual design elements largely indistinct. The coin conforms to the known type for this denomination, produced by hammering between crude dies on an unstandardized copper blank. |
