The effigy is rendered in the Renaissance portrait style characteristic of Habsburg Low Countries coinage of the mid-sixteenth century. A circular Latin legend surrounds the bust, separated by pellet stops, reading PHS · D · G · HISP · REX · D · TRS · ISSV, identifying Philip as King of Spain and Lord of Overijssel. The coin exhibits the irregular flan and somewhat shallow strike typical of hammered silver production. A beaded border frames the design at the rim. |

| Description du revers | The crowned quartered shield of Philip II of Spain dominates the central field, displaying the combined arms of Castile, León, Aragon, and Burgundy-Habsburg, surmounted by an imperial crown. The shield is flanked on either side by decorative supporters or ornamental devices, with firesteels of the Order of the Golden Fleece visible in the field on this variety. A circular Latin legend surrounds the composition, reading DOMINVS · MICHI · ADIVTOR +, proclaiming 'The Lord is my helper.' The overall design is consistent with the standardised Habsburg Netherlands coinage type of the 1560s, struck on an irregular hammered flan with a beaded border at the rim. |
