| Obverse description | Standing figure of Saint Mark the Evangelist at center, facing front, robed in ecclesiastical vestments and holding a long patriarchal staff or banner surmounted by a cross. To his right, the kneeling figure of Doge Pietro Grimani, depicted in ducal robes and receiving the standard from the saint in the traditional Venetian investiture scene. The surrounding field is enclosed by a fine beaded border, with the Latin legend PET·GRIM· S·M·VEN· DVX distributed around the circumference, identifying the Doge and his patron saint. |

| Additional information |
Pietro Grimani served as Doge from 1741 until his death in 1752, a period when Venice was already in sharp economic contraction — the fractional zecchino existed largely to facilitate small-denomination gold transactions in Levantine trade, where Venetian coinage still commanded trust long after Venetian political power had hollowed out. The quarter zecchino was never struck in large numbers under any doge, and Grimani's reign produced some of the lowest fractional gold outputs of the late Republic.
