Obverse description A single sinuous Korean dragon rendered in high relief occupies the central field, its scaled body coiling dynamically with the head facing right and claws extended. The central motif is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, outside of which the legends are arranged peripherally in both Chinese characters and Latin script. The Chinese legend reads 大朝鮮 (Great Joseon) to the left and 開國五百一年 (Gunguk year 501) across the upper arc, while the Korean hangul denomination 두돈오푼 appears to the right. The Latin denomination 1/4 YANG is inscribed at the base of the coin between two raised dots, with the entire design bordered by a milled outer rim.
