The effigy is rendered in the robust Germanic Renaissance style typical of mid-sixteenth-century Saxon coinage. The date 1554 is divided across the field flanking the shield. The outer legend, separated by ornamental stops, continues the titulature of the elector: LANDG THVRINGIE MARCH MISNIE ET DVX BVRGGRAVI MAGDEBVRGENSIS, completing the double-sided inscription that was standard practice for Saxon quarter thalers of this period. |
