Eppillus is one of the few Celtic rulers of Britain whose name appears on coinage in both Britain and Gaul, suggesting a reign that extended across the Channel — or at minimum, political connections sophisticated enough to warrant cross-territorial coin production. He styled himself REX on his issues, a Latin title almost certainly adopted under Roman influence following Caesar's campaigns and the client-king arrangements that followed.

The Cantii territory in Kent was the first British tribal zone Romans encountered in force, making its rulers early adopters of Roman political vocabulary. ABC 390 represents the fractional end of his gold output — small in weight, but carrying full royal pretension.
