توضیحات پشت سکه A stylised Celtic horse prancing to the right, rendered in the abstracted curvilinear manner typical of late Cantian coinage. Above the horse's back, the legend EP is inscribed in the field, while REX appears in the lower exergual area, together reading EP REX (King Eppillus). A cluster of pellets is visible beneath the horse's body, and a beaded border encircles the upper portion of the flan. The overall design reflects the Late Iron Age Celtic artistic tradition, with naturalistic elements reduced to bold, flowing lines.

اطلاعات تکمیلی

Eppillus is one of the few Celtic rulers of pre-Roman Britain who styled himself REX on his coinage — a deliberate borrowing of Latin that signals direct engagement with Roman political culture rather than hostility to it. He had previously ruled the Atrebates to the west before appearing among the Cantii, suggesting either conquest or dynastic maneuvering in the years immediately following Caesar's expeditions. The Cantii territory in Kent was the first landfall for Roman invasion forces, making its rulers acutely aware of what Roman recognition was worth.
