Obverse description Central field features the rampant Guelders lion facing left, depicted in high relief in the late Gothic hammered style, with a distinctive radiate or rayed collar around the neck — the characteristic motif that gave the type its popular name 'Peerdeke' (little horse). The lion stands on a ground line, its tail curled upward. A circular beaded border frames the design, with the abbreviated ducal title legend running continuously around the periphery in uncial Gothic lettering.
