| Beschrijving voorzijde | Quartered shield of arms occupying the central field, displaying the arms of Zutphen: a rampant lion in the upper-left and lower-right quarters, with a cross fleury and a tower in the remaining quarters, the whole set within a beaded inner circle. The shield is rendered in the late-Renaissance heraldic style typical of Low Countries civic coinage. A circular Latin legend runs along the periphery of the irregularly trimmed square flan, reading MONE NOVA CIVITA ZVTPH, proclaiming this as new money of the City of Zutphen. The entire design is struck on a klippe (lozenge-shaped) flan with a plain edge and characteristic hammered relief. |
