| Popis líce | Quartered shield of arms occupying the central field, displaying the arms of Zutphen: a rampant lion in the upper-left and lower-right quarters, with a cross fleury and a tower in the remaining quarters, the whole set within a beaded inner circle. The shield is rendered in the late-Renaissance heraldic style typical of Low Countries civic coinage. A circular Latin legend runs along the periphery of the irregularly trimmed square flan, reading MONE NOVA CIVITA ZVTPH, proclaiming this as new money of the City of Zutphen. The entire design is struck on a klippe (lozenge-shaped) flan with a plain edge and characteristic hammered relief. |

| Popis rubu | A standing female figure, personifying the city or Fortune, is depicted in the central field facing forward with arms extended and rays emanating from her head or shoulders, suggestive of divine favour or civic virtue. She stands upon what appears to be a rocky or undulating ground line, with small ornamental devices visible in the lower field. The surrounding circular Latin legend FATA VIAM INVENIENT — 'Fates will find a way' — alludes to the resilience of Zutphen during the turbulent period of the Dutch Revolt. The design is contained within a beaded circle, all struck on the same square klippe flan as the obverse, consistent with the piedfort character of this rare emergency-type issue. |
