| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field displays a bold Christogram-style monogram, composed of a large letter A overlaid with an X and additional strokes, forming the characteristic backwards monogram associated with Theoderic, rendered in a distinctive and somewhat irregular hand. A horizontal S is placed prominently within or adjacent to the monogram. The surrounding degenerate Latin legend, derived from INVICTA ROMA, is distributed around the field. Small decorative elements, including a cross and a star, appear in the field. The style throughout is consistent with Gepid barbarous imitative production at Sirmium. |

After Theoderic's death in 526, the Gepids moved quickly to assert control over Sirmium — a strategically vital Danubian city that had changed hands repeatedly since the Roman withdrawal. This fractional silver issue, struck under Gepid authority but invoking the names of both the Eastern emperor and Theoderic, reflects the careful political balancing act of a barbarian kingdom that needed to appear legitimate to Constantinople while consolidating real territorial power. The backwards monogram is a known feature of Sirmium's Gepid output and is not a die error.
